CDC & FDA Joint Statement- Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) Covid-19 Vaccine
Due to this morning’s press release from the CDC and FDA regarding the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) Covid-19 vaccine, we will be temporarily suspending administration of the Janssen vaccine. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause for you or your staff.
According to the CDC and FDA statement, 6 individuals of the almost 7 million people vaccinated have developed blood clots after receiving the Janssen vaccine. They have asked us to hold, but not destroy the vaccine, while they conduct an investigation to determine the significance of these 6 cases in relation to the broad administration of the vaccine in, as their statement says, “an overabundance of caution”. We anticipate that after this investigational review, it is likely that administration will resume.
Until the determination is made that the Janssen vaccine is safe and is released again for public use, we have suspended all of our use of Janssen vaccinations. We do, however, continue to have Moderna vaccines available to you. Moderna is available through vaccine clinics currently being conducted at Sweetwater Hospital on Fridays. You may make an appointment by calling 865-213-8761.
