Director of Medical Surgical Nursing

Sweetwater Hospital is seeking a qualified Director of Medical Surgical Nursing the director will be accountable to support the CNO to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care. The Medical Surgical Director of Nursing will monitor unit performance and effectiveness implementing policies and procedures when necessary according to hospital guidelines. The ideal candidate for this position has proven experience in a nursing leadership role, outstanding organizational skills, and in-depth knowledge of healthcare industry policies.

Responsibilities:

Assist in assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating nursing practice on unit level

Direct, supervise and evaluate work activities of nursing personnel.

Provide clinical leadership, strategic and long-term goals for the nursing staff.

Determine, assign and assess performance objectives for medical surgical unit.

Lead and develop the nursing staff within the unit, providing performance goals, feedback and

development opportunities.

Maintain department budgets and record all expenses.

Ability to serve as role model and advocate for the professional discipline of nursing.

Establish new policies and update existing policies to improve the standard of care for patients.

Plan and oversee admission, nursing, and patient care processes.

Respond to any nursing-related issues in a timely manner.

Coordinate with medical staff and other departments to ensure unit efficiency.

Oversee all record-keeping processes and ensure all necessary documents are accurate and up-to-date.

Evaluate staff performance and prepare accurate reports detailing your findings.

Involved in advising senior management on best nursing practices.

 

Requirements:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current license in the State of Tennessee. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years’ RN experience, three (3) years’ acute care required preferably in medical surgical unit. Minimum two (two) years’ nursing management experience.
