We are seeking a detail-oriented and credentialed Inpatient Coder to join our Health Information team. This role involves reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to apply accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. You’ll be responsible for coding and abstracting data in support of the Uniform Bill and the DRG/Prospective Payment System, with the ability to handle a variety of record types—particularly those of greater complexity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for inpatient and outpatient encounters
- Analyze medical records for diagnoses, procedures, and patient disposition
- Apply POA indicators and identify HACs for reporting
- Operate medical coding and abstracting systems (e.g., Dolbey Fusion, CPSI, Medhost)
- Maintain accurate logs and error reports to support billing integrity
- Utilize MS-DRG reimbursement knowledge and adhere to AHIMA’s ethical standards
- Collaborate with the HIM team to identify workflow improvements
- Handle protected health information with confidentiality and care
Qualifications
- Successful completion of an AHIMA-approved Coding Certificate Program
- Associate’s degree or two years of relevant experience preferred
- Credentialed (RHIT, RHIA, CCS) or CPC certification highly desirable
- Thorough understanding of ICD-10-CM Official Coding Guidelines
- Knowledge of HACs, POA indicators, and DRG assignment
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
