Position Overview:
Provides basic care, monitoring, documentation, and safety for individuals with mental and/or emotional conditions. Responsible for organizational wellness rounds, code green response, and de-escalation during crisis in addition to basic Patient Care Technician/Unit Secretary responsibilities.
Job Qualifications:
Education: Graduate from High School or equivalent.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), crisis intervention training within 6 months.
Experience: Graduate of a vocational training program is as asset but can be trained on the job. Up to one (1) month of on-the-job training and experience is normally required for satisfactory performance on this job.
Job Knowledge and Skills:

Responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic patient environment.

Communication skills sufficient to report activities and deviations from normal to abnormal.

Ability to interact with patients and families.

Proper knowledge of safety issues regarding patients, equipment, cleanliness, and asepsis in the work environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patient care and chart content information.

Complete physical checks and monitor patients to detect unusual or harmful behavior and report observations to licensed nursing staff and providers.

Ability to function as a Patient Care Technician/Unit Secretary.
Requirements for Position:

Hearing-Hearing acuity sufficient to perform job functions

Speaking-Verbal ability is required to communicate with staff and patients

Vision-Normal visual acuity is needed

Working Conditions:

Clinical employees are frequently exposed to communicable disease. Safety precautions are enforced for employees such as lab work for screening and immunizations, etc., education on universal precautions and practical applicability in the work environment. Verbal abuse, threats and physical violence from hostile, angry, mentally challenged and or disgruntled patients or family members are a distinct possibility.
