REGISTERED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST (RRT)

JOB TITLE:                 REGISTERED RESPIRATORY THERAPIST (RRT)

JOB SUMMARY:      Responsible for the administration of all respiratory care modalities under the supervision, control, and responsibility of a licensed physician in addition to specific testing techniques to assist in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment in which respiratory care practitioners have been properly trained.

REPORTS TO:           TECHNICAL DIRECTOR – MEDICAL DIRECTOR

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:       A.S. Degree from AMA approved respiratory care program.

Licensure:        National Board of Respiratory Care, RRT credential.  Current valid Tennessee Respiratory Care Practitioner license or work permit.

Experience:     Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.  Demonstration of competency in regard to the safe delivery of respiratory care including equipment function.

  • Knowledge of age specific needs and of the pediatric, adolescent and adult patient.
  • Knowledge of growth and development of all ages of patients.
  • Each patient treatment plan will be individualized to reflect their development needs.
  • Critical thinking and independent problem solving requiring a high degree of creativity and decision making.
  • Knowledge of and access to information on growth and development, emotional needs and treatment measures for all ages.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Aware of and adheres to general hospital guidelines, hospital compliance plan and hospital policies developed in accordance with HIPPA.
  • Aware of Respiratory Care Policy and Procedures and adheres to these.
  • Accepts and deals with updated changes in a satisfactory manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Therapeutic administration of oxygen including all delivery devices their proper use, indications, contraindications, hazards and appropriate safety measures.

  • Administration of prescribed medication to the cardio-respiratory system including proper dosage, indications, contraindications, and possible adverse reactions.

  • Competent in administration of proper humidification devices.

  • Administration of IPPB therapy. *
  • Administration of chest physiotherapy and postural drainage.

  • Proper technique in obtaining, handling and reporting of arterial blood gases.
