Job Description
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Ultrasound technologist performs a variety of technical exams requiring independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative for diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Applies principles, theories and techniques of ultrasound technology to produce reliable test results.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for excellent patient care at all times.
• Interacts professionally with patient, family and peers.

• A critical thinker, utilizing knowledge, skills, and communication to always have the patient’s best interest in the forefront.
• Works under the direction of the Radiologist at all times.
• Assess all orders for appropriateness and communicate questions with the Radiologist and/or ordering provider.
• Understands contraindications and potential hazards of different exams.
• Performs the highest quality imaging consistent with ordered examination.
• Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer’s instruction.
• Operates the Trophon for ensuring high level disinfection.
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and general population.
• Maintains and performs accurate equipment QC.
• Report equipment issues for service.
• Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
• Assists Radiologist with sterile procedures.
• Ascertains patient understanding of process and informed consent.
• Completes procedure consent forms and procedure time-outs.
• Able to self-correct with consistently low errors and problems.
• Able to perform exams in a timely manner, consistent with peers.
• Able to initiate or respond to information in an appropriate, timely and complete manner.
• Takes responsibility for actions, reports to work and demonstrates the ability to be trusted among peers.
• Is a strong team player and able to resolve conflicts.
• Continues to work towards additional registries and skills.
• Keeps abreast of ultrasound advancements and education.
• Responsible for daily workflow in the EMR system and PACS.
• Burns discs, exports images.
• Keeps work area clean.
• Takes rotating ultrasound call.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound programor radiologic technology program.
Licensure: ARDMS or eligible.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital setting preferred.
