Position Overview:
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Ultrasound Technician is responsible for performing a variety of technical ultrasound exams, requiring independent judgment, critical thinking, and expertise to produce accurate diagnostic results. This role requires the technologist to ensure patient safety and comfort, communicate effectively with patients, peers, and providers, and maintain high-quality imaging standards.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Graduate of an accredited ultrasound or radiologic technology program.
- Licensure & Certification:
- ARDMS certification or eligibility required.
- BLS and ARRT certifications preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide excellent patient care at all times.
- Professionally interact with patients, families, and peers, ensuring communication is clear and empathetic.
- Demonstrate a critical thinking approach, always prioritizing the patient’s best interests.
- Perform ultrasound exams as ordered, ensuring high-quality images for diagnosis.
- Assess all orders for appropriateness and communicate with the Radiologist or ordering provider regarding any concerns.
- Understand and follow equipment and procedural protocols to ensure safety.
- Practice medical and surgical aseptic procedures and assist Radiologist during sterile procedures.
- Operate ultrasound equipment, including Trophon for high-level disinfection
- Maintain accurate equipment QC and report any issues requiring service.
- Ensure proper use of ultrasound equipment in line with manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Keep the work area clean and organized.
- Work closely with a team to ensure smooth workflow and patient care.
- Take rotating ultrasound on-call shifts.
- Document procedures accurately in the EMR system and PACS.
- Actively resolve conflicts and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Stay up-to-date on ultrasound technology and advancements through continuing education.
- Actively pursue additional certifications or registries to enhance professional skills.
