The Respiratory Care Department at Sweetwater Hospital is open 24 hours per day/7 days per week, and cares for patients suffering from both acute and chronic lung problems. The department consists of 10 full time Respiratory Therapists, 1 PRN Therapist, and an EKG Technician. Each therapist has completed at least 2 years of training and has obtained an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Care.
In addition to an Associate’s Degree, each member of the department is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and S.T.A.B.L.E which focuses on care of critical neonates.

On a daily basis, the Respiratory Care Department carries out many functions to care for their patients. These include:

  • Aerosol Treatments
  • Chest Physiotherapy
  • EKG
  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Treadmill/Nuclear Medicine Stress Tests
  • Holter Monitor
  • Arterial Blood Gases
  • Airway Suctioning
  • CPAP/BiPAP Therapy
  • Ventilator Care
