Sweetwater Hospital Association was honored to welcome Congressman Chuck Fleischmann for a visit and tour of the hospital, where he saw firsthand the significant improvements made possible through federal funding and discussed the continued importance of investing in rural healthcare.
During the visit, Congressman Fleischmann toured the recently renovated Sterile Processing and Radiology Departments, learning how enhancements are improving patient care, increasing efficiency, and expanding access to advanced medical services for Monroe County and surrounding communities.
In recent years, the hospital has secured several million dollars in federal funding, making it possible to complete critical infrastructure upgrades, renovate key clinical areas, and purchase state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment. These investments have strengthened the hospital’s ability to provide high-quality healthcare close to home, expanded access to advanced services, improved patient safety, and ensured the organization remains well-positioned to meet the evolving healthcare needs of Monroe County and the surrounding communities.
Through recent funding, the hospital purchased a new Nuclear Medicine camera and CT scanner. A Nuclear Medicine camera uses specialized imaging to evaluate how organs and tissues are functioning, assisting physicians in diagnosing conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and thyroid disorders. The new CT scanner provides highly detailed cross-sectional images that help physicians quickly diagnose injuries, infections, strokes, and other life-threatening medical conditions with greater speed and accuracy.
Another impactful project was the complete renovation of the Sterile Processing Department, including new flooring and ceiling systems, and an upgraded HVAC system designed to support increased surgical volumes. Two new autoclaves were also installed, bringing the hospital’s total to three sterilization units and significantly increasing processing capacity. This improved design enhances staff efficiency, reduces unnecessary movement, and helps ensure surgical teams have timely access to properly sterilized instruments.
Planned improvements to be completed in 2027 include a fully renovated X-ray room, the purchase of a mobile C-Arm imaging system, a DEXA bone density scanner, and the addition of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to the hospital’s Wound Care Clinic.
These investments represent more than new equipment; they are an investment in the future of healthcare for our region. By modernizing critical hospital departments and expanding access to advanced diagnostic technology, Sweetwater Hospital Association is strengthening its ability to provide high-quality, compassionate care close to home.
